Because natural gas is delivered to your home via an underground pipeline, it provides nearly 100% dependability. Natural gas is extracted from deep underground rock formations. 97% of the natural gas used in the United States is produced in North America; offsetting America’s dependence on foreign oil.
Yes, natural gas is a safe fuel to use in your home or business. It has a limited range of flammability. In order to burn, natural gas must be an exact ratio between the gas and air. Natural gas is lighter than air and can safely disperse if vented correctly.
On average natural gas appliances cost roughly half as much to operate than other resources. Households utilizing natural gas for heating, cooking and clothes drying spend on average of $840 less annually than homes using electricity. In low oil-priced markets, businesses and residential customers can still expect a savings over traditional electricity or heating fuels.
Natural Gas is an efficient source of energy that can be used to fuel our homes and businesses. It is a flammable gas consisting largely of methane and other hydrocarbons. Found deeply underground, it is colorless and odorless (mercaptan — added odor injection, smells like rotten eggs). Cleaner then petroleum-based fuels, it emits less chemicals associated with acid rain, smog and greenhouse emissions. Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel and is a highly efficient form of energy.
If you smell gas inside a home, go outside and call Natural Energy Utility at 606-324-3920. Do not turn any electrical switches on or off. Do not light matches, smoke cigarettes or create any other source of combustion.
